Permanent Diode Laser Hair Removal
ENG:
What Technology is Diode Laser Hair Removal Based On?
Diode laser hair removal is based on the selective dynamics of light and heat. The laser penetrates the skin's surface to reach the hair root, where the heat causes the hair to be damaged. The diode laser operates at wavelengths of 808 nm, 1064 nm, and 755 nm, targeting the melanocytes in the hair follicles with precision. The laser light is absorbed by the hair and melanin in the follicle, which is then converted into heat, raising the follicle’s temperature. Once the temperature reaches a certain level, the structure of the hair follicle is irreversibly damaged, leading to the natural disappearance of hair and resulting in long-lasting hair removal.
How Many Treatments are Necessary, and How Long-Lasting is the Treatment?
It’s important to clarify that "permanent" hair removal doesn't exist in the literal sense, as this would imply that our body and cells do not regenerate, which is biologically impossible. The term "permanent hair removal" is a misnomer; we actually talk about long-lasting hair removal. Long-term hairlessness can be maintained for years (up to 8-10 years) or even more in some cases, but due to cell regeneration, a few much weaker hairs may eventually grow back. Typically, 8 sessions are needed for optimal results, with 1-2 maintenance sessions recommended annually.
When is the Treatment Not Recommended (Contraindications)?
The treatment is generally safe, but there are a few situations where it is not recommended:
- Pregnancy, breastfeeding
- Photosensitivity or taking photosensitizing medications
- Light hair (gray, light blonde) as these do not contain enough melanin for the treatment
- Active skin disease in the treatment area
- Melanoma, keloid scarring tendency
- Epilepsy
- Intimate area treatment during menstruation for hygiene reasons
- Tattooed areas are not recommended due to the pigments
- After hyaluronic acid lip fillers, a wait of 4 weeks is recommended, and 3 weeks after Botox treatments
Why is Diode Laser Hair Removal More Effective than IPL?
The diode laser delivers concentrated heat directly to the hair follicle, achieving faster and more effective results. IPL technology uses a xenon light source that emits a broad spectrum of light, while the diode laser concentrates the light at a single point, providing more efficient and effective hair removal.
